You are here: Christian Doctrine Seeking God IN EVERYTHING, GIVE THANKS

E-mail Print PDF

Do you ever think of giving thanks to God? It is a requirement of His people, and it should also be a reminder that there is One God, in three persons, maker of Heaven and Earth and all that is therein. We are to give thanks for our breath, for it is controlled by God, the Creator, alone, and the fact that we live at all, should invoke our thanks. We also give thanks that we have food on our tables, for God created everything for the needs of man.

He has given the sun, moon and stars, and the weather, for the good of mankind, and all benefit from the warmth of the sun, and also the rain to water the earth. He has created all animals, and all beautiful flowers and plants, there is nothing which God has not created. Evolution is a lie of man, to try and discredit God. We are not from monkeys but were made in the image of God, and have His likeness, except that we are sinners of the deepest dye and God is sinless and Holy, and He cannot look upon our sin. We have all inherited sin from the first man, Adam. But Jesus Christ is the second Adam, who came to die in the place of sinners and bear their sins on the Cross.

Giving thanks should come easily when we realize what terrible sinners we are, and need to repent of all our sins before the Holy God. Repentance is a gift from God – its no use just repeating words like a formula – for it has to be conviction of sin and a gift of repentance from God Himself. God often has to bring us to the end of Self – for self is the worst sin – and we fall in humble obedience to His commands. Then we are brought to a place where we see and understand His Words found in the Bible, or hear the gospel through a Gospel preacher, and are born again by the Holy Spirit.

Until this happens, we are all dead in our trespasses and sins and blind us to the truths of God’s Holy Word. It is a work of God himself. Man cannot decide to come to Jesus under his own volition. He cannot shake a preacher’s hand and say the work is done! It has to be truly a work by God’s own free grace and calling.

Those who belong to Jesus Christ, are always praising Him for His wonderful gift of salvation. If you are not saved, then get a King James Bible and read the gospels, and if it be God’s will to bring you to repentance and faith, then you will join that happy throng of believers thanking God for His mercies and grace.

“In everything, give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” 1 Thessalonians 5 v. 18
